The Importance of a Business Card
Even though our world has gone digital, the importance of a business card should not be undervalued or overlooked. These days we rely heavily on technology and our devices – we all put contacts in our phones, tablets and laptops with the best intentions of remembering that person. The reality is, when we need that person, we often have forgotten about them entirely. These days, most of us are too busy and our brains are already on overload so the chances of recalling that much-needed contact is lost.
It’s much easier to recall when you have a visual reminder in the form of a business card. We tend to keep business cards for years and years, going through them when we’re looking for that mortgage broker we used 6 years ago or a commercial printer we haven’t used in awhile only to stumble upon that plumber we need as well! I’ve learned over the years that storing business contacts in my phone can get complicated – “did I put that plumber under the P’s… what was his name again?… what was the company name?” I felt organized when I put it in my phone, like I was going to remember it 3 years from now but here we are 6 months later and I can’t recall. Sound familiar? I’m sure it does, we’ve all been there!
A business card is also a great way to introduce yourself to someone – perhaps to someone you may not have had an opportunity to otherwise meet. For you Millenials, don’t underestimate, before there was Tinder, there were business cards! Give it a try sometime! It could go something like “Couldn’t help but notice you not noticing me…” as you pass them your business card! You get the idea! – business cards are great for cold calling. They only take a few seconds to hand out but that impression could last a lifetime if done right.
A successful business card should convey who you are, what you are, where you are, and why. The “why” is important these days because many businesses have a conscious cause or strong purpose at the core that may sway a customer in their direction. Your business card is very important and the ones that aren’t are generally unimpressive as a whole. The look and feel of your card is equally important. The card stock you choose for your business card should be well thought out according to your industry and your customers – if you are a mortgage broker or plumber, you want people keeping your card for many years, so choose a card that can withstand the test of time. We could assume that a plumber may have damp hands, making a card with a gloss finish that could take a little water without deteriorating would be a good choice for them. If your business has an identifiable logo or colour scheme, this should be prominent and easy to find in a sea of business cards. Just starting out in business and need help with branding? We can help with that too! After 35 years in business, ABC Pressworks has done it all and we are happy to use our in-depth knowledge of the printing industry to help you promote yourself, your business, or your event.
Don’t miss opportunities by relying solely on the internet to get your business out there. While we can’t live without the internet these days, it takes ongoing time and money to be found on Google and the like. Maybe you are relying on people already knowing who you are to search for you? That’s great as long as you already have enough clientele and aren’t trying to grow your business – but let’s face it, that’s not most businesses. There’s always a turnover in every industry and you don’t want to miss an opportunity to acquire a new customer.
With the right business card, you can leave a positive, lasting impression that will generate business for you in the future.
